Research Ownership and Dissemination – Dec 2nd 12.00-14.00 room 5.206 University Place.
Within academia, your professional reputation as a researcher is established primarily through the knowledge produced by your research. However, the effective dissemination of that research, via journals, teaching, engagement with the public or helping to shape policy, requires careful management in order to help you to build and maintain your academic reputation. This workshop will explore some of the tensions of co-authorship, will investigate some of the potential challenges of disseminating research, and will introduce participants to some of the principles of Intellectual Property and its application within the Humanities. Heather Thompson (Manchester University Intellectual Property) will offer advice on protecting your ideas, while Prof. Ruth Boaden (Manchester Business School) will talk about her role as Deputy Director of the Centre for Leadership in Applied Health Research, a project which is a collaboration between Manchester University and 20 NHS Trusts across Manchester. As this is a lunchtime session, please feel free to bring your sandwiches.
