Effective Book Proposals, University Place room 5.206, November 24th 12.00-14.00.
The Skills Training Team are pleased to open up this workshop to PGRs in the final stages of their thesis. This workshop will help participants to understand what makes a good book proposal. Emma Brennan, a commisioning editor from Manchester University Press, will explain the process for submitting a book proposal, what editors are looking for, some of the common mistakes that prospective authors make, and what makes a strong proposal. In addition, Prof Alan Warde, Co-Director of the ESRC Centre for Research on Innovation and Competition (CRIC), who has published work with Manchester University Press (as well as with other publishers) will also offer some insight into publishing from the author’s side, and offer some tips for successful management of the process. As this is a lunchtime session, please feel free to bring your sandwiches.
