Guidance notes and application form: http://documents.manchester.ac.uk/display.aspx?DocID=30389
Are you planning on submitting your thesis by September 2017 but are finding it difficult to finish? Why not apply to Thesis Boot Camp, a no-time-for-procrastination, take-no-prisoners intensive writing event. Introductory sessions will include motivational talks, goal setting and strategies for writing quickly and writing well. There is no formal teaching during this event but rather it’s a time for you to get your head down and write as much as possible. Support staff will be on hand and catering will be provided to ensure an encouraging, distraction-free environment. This event is ideal for final-stage PGRs who are planning on submitting their thesis in the autumn of 2017 but still have a substantial portion of their thesis to write (e.g. 20,000 words worth of first draft material).
Off campus location: This event will take place at Cliff College, an approved partner of The University of Manchester.
This event is FREE and includes accommodation, all materials, snacks, and meals throughout the event. However, it is the responsibility of the participants to arrange their own travel arrangements to the event.
Pre-requisites (further details are in the guidance notes)
- This event is open to PGR students who are planning to submit their thesis between Sept-Dec 2017. Preference will be given to applicants in their submission pending year and/or those who must submit by September 2017. If you are not submitting in Sept-Dec 2017 (e.g. considering a submission pending year) then DO NOT APPLY. There are many other writing events taking place throughout the year that are available for you to attend.
- In order to gain maximum benefit from this event, you will be required to complete pre-event planning activities.
- You should have already written several sections of your thesis.
- You should have completed your data collection and ideally your data analysis.
If you are interested in participating in Thesis Boot Camp please carefully read the guidance notes, complete the application form (link in guidance notes) and submit it by 12noon, Friday 31st March 2016 to Dr Eljee Javier (firstname.lastname@example.org).
